NCBAM Care Villages – A Partnership Opportunity

by | Apr 24, 2025 | On Mission

Approximately one in five North Carolinians is age 65 or older. Many are aging well; countless others are struggling. At the NCBAM Call Center, we hear their stories every day. Medical bills and rising costs have eliminated savings. Homes are in need of repair and some individuals haven’t left home in months or even years because of a few unpassable steps. Many widows and widowers live in despair—not only emotionally, but spiritually as well.

North Carolina Baptist churches have always led important changes in society by establishing hospitals, universities, and orphanages. We at NCBAM believe now is the time to continue that trend and focus on the physical and spiritual needs of older adults.

By 2031, those 65+ will outnumber those under 18. NCBAM’s Care Village model of ministry offers a sustainable way for churches to take care of their members and eventually be able to provide care for those in their communities.

Churches do great things with their senior adult ministries—providing spiritual support, socialization, and opportunities to serve others. Is there more we can all do to use our gifts and talents and be more intentional in serving vulnerable older adults in our communities?

Psalm 68:5 states, “A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.” To be more like our heavenly Father, we can support those in need. According to an African proverb, “it takes a village to raise a child.” We believe that it will take a Care Village to care for the needs of North Carolina’s growing aging population.

NCBAM Care Villages offer “Help for the Journey” by providing Christian care and support, enhancing independence, and offering wellness education and opportunities for engagement.
